It is not only a big change of life for your sons and daughters when they go away to university but also a big change for parents too.  In some cases it’s the first time your son or daughter has been away from home and you need to be happy with where they are going to be living. 

Hopefully the information below will answer some of the questions that you as parents might have.

Age

At u-student.com we only accept residents aged 18 or over

Secure and Safe

u-student.com takes security and safety seriously. Heat and smoke detectors are fitted in all our student accommodation and CCTV is installed outside and inside the buildings. Entry to our student accommodation is via electronic access systems operated by either cards, fobs or number pads. We also provide out of hour emergency contact numbers and our alarm systems are linked to 24/7 security to ensure a rapid response.

Costs

For information on what the rental charges are please refer to the ‘What does it cost?’ section of each location. There are no hidden costs at u-student.com the rent is inclusive of gas, electric, water, broadband and personal possessions insurance.

Booking Process

Guarantor

All residents who pay either monthly or termly need a Guarantor who will undertake to pay any rent payments should the resident default on their rent payments.

Tenancy Agreement

The Tenancy Agreement is a legal document and once signed places obligations on u-student.com, the resident and the guarantor (if applicable). The terms of the Tenancy Agreement are binding and only in exceptional circumstances will u-student.com permit a tenancy to be cancelled. A specimen of the Tenancy Agreement can be seen on each location page, Carlisle and Sunderland.

Length of Stay

At u-student.com we do not just provide accommodation for first year students, students of any year can become residents at u-student.com. We have had residents that have lived with us for the duration of their time at university, and residents that have continued their tenancies through the summer holidays by prior arrangement.

Residents with Disabilities

We have a number of rooms available at our u-student.com accommodation that are fully wheelchair accessible. For further information about our facilities for residents with disabilities please contact us at the relevant location.

Room Allocation

Should residents submit a request to us in writing, for example to be in a certain flat/room, to be in the same flat/accommodation as friends, single sex flat, u-student.com will endeavour to arrange this, however we can not make any guarantees.

What to Bring

Residents need to bring their own bedding ie duvet, pillows, bed linen and towels, their own personal belongings, pc or laptop.

What not to Bring

All our kitchens are fully equipped including cutlery, crockery, pans, toaster, kettles and microwaves and lots more. There is no reason for residents to bring any kitchen equipment whatsoever.

Please note that electrical cooking equipment (including deep fat fryers), mini fridges and woks are not allowed in any of our student accommodation. Further information is available in our Accommodation Handbook

Televisions

Should your daughter or son bring a television of any description with them (including using a pc or laptop to watch TV) when they come to live at u-student.com please ensure that they purchase a TV licence. We do not provide TV licenses.

Pastoral Care

All of u-student.com staff have a good relationship with university pastoral care and welfare support services and will refer students who need additional levels of support and assistance to the university.
