5 ideas for your pre-Christmas break farewell

Christmas is almost here, and whilst the break often offers much needed respite from university life, it is important to remember that you’ll be saying a fond farewell to your university pals, people you’ve had the pleasure of sharing the experience with every single day. Having your own Christmas celebration before you all depart is an excellent way to mark the occasion as well as get in the festive spirit for spending Christmas at home. In this blog post, we take a look at just 5 ideas for your pre-Christmas break farewell.

The traditional Christmas lunch

One of the greatest myths of all time is that students can’t cook, and even if you have pushed your culinary skills to the brink, getting together for a traditional Christmas lunch doesn’t have to result in a small kitchen fire. Better yet, everyone can get involved! By delegating one dish to each person, you can make the long and often drawn out process of making Christmas lunch much simpler. If you don’t fancy dining at your student home, head out for a festive lunch at your local!

The secret Santa

Secret Santa is a favourite across homes and offices throughout the UK, and better yet it’s perfect for students on a budget. Set your budget and get creative with your secret Santa. Opening your presents all together also comes with hilarious results.

The Christmas movie marathon

Who doesn’t love a Christmas movie? Mark the end of the term and the start of your Christmas break with a chilled night in with your university pals in front of the TV.  Ask friends to bring over their favourite Christmas film and don’t forget those Christmas themed snacks.

The gingerbread bake off

Fans of The Great British Bake Off will love this pre-Christmas farewell competition. Yes, pre-made gingerbread houses are cheap and easy to buy in store, but where’s the fun in that! Put your baking skills to the test with a gingerbread house competition. Not a baker? Having a Christmas tree making competition is another idea, they can literally be made from anything, but remember the most creative wins!

The festive knees up

Whatever university city or town you call home, there is certain to be a jam packed Christmas itinerary so take advantage of the festive themed events being held. Christmas markets are always popular choices and great if you still have some last minute Christmas shopping to do. A number of student haunts, including your very own students’ union, will be holding festive events, so get involved.
