Most of our international students pay for their tenancy with a single payment before they move in. There is the option to pay in three instalments and to do this you will need a UK resident guarantor, this is a person who lives and works full-time in the UK and is willing to meet your rent payments if you are unable to pay. They must be a person – not a company or government – and they will only be asked to pay if you are unable to.
However you choose to pay, you’ll find the process a lot easier with a UK bank account. To set one up, simply visit your chosen bank with two forms of ID (such as a passport and driving licence) and some proof of address (such as a bill or your u-student contract). If you have any queries regarding booking, please call Head Office on +44 1228 592594 or email email@example.com.
A. This is no problem. You can move into your room any time after your tenancy begins. If you aren’t moving into your room on the start date of your tenancy agreement, please let us know when you will be arriving.
A. Yes. Our flats are fully furnished and equipped but you will need to bring your own bedding.
A. Yes. University holidays fall during the Christmas (December/January) and Easter (March/April) periods each year. You can use your rooms for the length of your tenancy, which will usually cover these holiday periods. Many students stay in their accommodation during holidays.
A. Yes. The university year generally ends in June / July and starts again in September. If you would like to stay with us during the summer let us know and we can arrange this with you. If we have summer works or events organised, there is a possibility that you will have to move rooms. If this is going to happen, u-student will give you plenty of notice.
A. All full-time students studying in the UK for more than six months are covered by the NHS National Health Service (NHS), which is available free of charge.
If your course lasts less than six months and your country of origin has no health care agreement with the UK, you will not be covered by the NHS and should consider private health insurance to cover the cost of any treatment.
A. If you have a licence issued in a European Union (EU) country, you can drive on your EU licence while in Great Britain. International students from outside of the EU can drive on a licence from their own country for the first 12 months following arrival.
A. All students who wish to pay their rent in instalments are required to provide an acceptable UK guarantor. A guarantor is responsible for any outstanding rent, and associated rent recovery costs, for the tenant they are guaranteeing. This provides us with the security and knowledge that your rent will be paid in full if you are unable to pay.
A. You can get in touch with Housing Hand. Housing Hand works in partnership with u-student and specialises in working with international students and will be able to act as your UK Guarantor. For further queries, you can contact Housing Hand directly.
A. Housing Hand charges a one-off fee, equivalent to one month’s rent, for the guarantor service. Up to 50 per cent of this is returned to you at the end of your tenancy, subject to the length of your tenancy. Terms and conditions apply.
A. Before paying your booking fee to u-student, you will need to apply directly to Housing Hand through http://www.housinghand.co.uk or by telephone on +44 (0)207 205 2625 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org .
